Accounting Manager

Whether our clients are looking at greenfield construction or retrofitting an existing facility, we have the in-house expertise to take their project from vision to reality.

To add to this expertise, we are recruiting for an Accounting Manager for our Winnipeg office location, to join our collaborative and team focused organization.

As our Accounting Manager, you will oversee and manage the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and effective management of the accounting team.

Position Overview:

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and consolidate month and year-end financial statements for all combined companies, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Prepare quarterly Results of Operations materials.
  • Support the preparation of the quarterly MD&A report.
  • Oversee month and year-end closing processes, ensuring deadlines are met and financial data is accurate.
  • Review and approve monthly Work in Progress schedules to ensure accurate tracking of project costs and revenues before submitting for final approval.
  • Analyze financial statements to identify cost variances, trends, and financial performance metrics.
  • Perform and review general ledger account analysis and reconciliation, addressing discrepancies in a prompt manner.

Compliance

  • Act as a liaison with external auditors, facilitating audits and ensuring timely resolution of issues or information requests.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
  • Ensure company-wide compliance with PST/GST and state tax legislation.
  • Manage tax audits and clearances, collaborating with tax authorities and external consultants when needed.

Cash Management and Budgeting

  • Effectively manage both AR and AP cash flows, perform weekly cash forecasts for cheque runs, and follow up on aged receivables to ensure timely payments.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget, providing financial insights and variance analysis.
  • Support the Director, Finance and CFO in strategic decision-making by providing financial analysis, forecasts, and recommendations.

Performance Management

  • Hire, train, develop and empower accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
  • Assign tasks, monitor team performance, and provide ongoing training and development.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of financial tasks and reporting.

Qualifications Needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Must be enrolled and in final stages of CPA program.
  • 8+ years of relevant progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Strong background in construction accounting, including knowledge of job costing, revenue recognition, and project accounting.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Sage 300 CRE or CMiC preferred).
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • May be required to work extended hours at month, quarter, and year-ends.
