Project Overview

FWS Group undertook the Wood Pellet Conveyor Transfer Upgrade project to enhance the material handling efficiency at a facility handling wood pellets. This project focused on addressing key challenges related to material flow, impact degradation, and dust emissions at the transfer point between two conveyors. The upgrade aimed to optimize the transfer process and minimize environmental impact.

The scope of work for the project included several advanced engineering and installation components:

  • Engineered Chute System: The design, supply, and installation of a new engineered chute system were central to the upgrade. This system was developed to improve the flow of wood pellets, reduce degradation caused by impact, and mitigate dust emissions.
  • Detailed Discreet Element Modeling (DEM) & Material Flow Simulation: Utilized to analyze existing material flow conditions, validate performance parameters, and optimize handling at the transfer point. This advanced simulation provided critical insights into material behavior, ensuring the design met performance expectations.
  • Transfer Chute Design: The new transfer chute featured a curved hood and spoon design to guide material flow more effectively, reducing both impact and dust generation. This design enhancement improved the efficiency and cleanliness of the transfer process.
  • Extended Enclosed Skirting System: To further reduce dust emissions, an enclosed skirting system was extended around the transfer point. This system isolated the area, minimizing dust release into the environment and improving the overall working conditions.
  • Planned Shutdown Coordination: Installation work was carefully scheduled during planned shutdown windows to minimize disruption. Coordination with the client ensured that all installation activities were carried out smoothly and efficiently, aligning with operational requirements.

This upgrade has significantly improved the handling of wood pellets at the transfer point, reducing material degradation and dust emissions, while optimizing overall system performance. The project highlights FWS Group's commitment to leveraging advanced technology and precise planning to deliver effective solutions in material handling and environmental management.
