Project Overview
This project centered on the design and construction of a specialized facility for receiving, processing, and packaging bird seed in Ste. Agathe, Manitoba. The scope included both operational infrastructure and storage capacity tailored specifically for seed handling within the animal feed sector. Key elements ranged from precision processing equipment to efficient material movement systems and large-scale warehousing.
Project Goals
The project was initiated to streamline and modernize the processing of bird seed, from bulk receiving to final packaging. Objectives included increasing operational efficiency, ensuring product quality through controlled handling, and optimizing space for both processing and storage. The facility also aimed to support high-throughput logistics while maintaining cleanliness and product integrity.
Technologies and Innovations
To meet these goals, the facility integrated several specialized systems and structures:
- Seed processing line equipped with a roller mill, mixer, and bagger, allowing for efficient handling, blending, and packaging of different seed varieties.
- Truck receiving infrastructure, including a scale and under-truck drag conveyor, provided fast and accurate intake operations.
- A set of smooth-wall steel hopper bins with comprehensive distribution and reclaim systems ensured secure and efficient storage with easy access for processing.
- A 60 x 100-foot pre-engineered building housed core operations, while a 60 x 162-foot pole shed cold storage warehouse offered additional climate-resilient storage for bulk inventory.
Results
The completed facility now serves as a streamlined, high-capacity operation capable of managing large volumes of seed with minimal manual handling. The integration of automated systems and durable storage infrastructure has improved efficiency, product consistency, and throughput. The layout supports both seasonal flexibility and year-round operations.
The Bird Seed Receiving and Packaging Facility in Ste. Agathe reflects a thoughtful approach to agricultural logistics and feed processing. Combining robust equipment, smart layout design, and modern storage solutions, the project delivered a functional and scalable operation that supports both current demands and future growth in the seed processing market.
