Project Overview
FWS delivered a complex brownfield design-build expansion of Bunge’s existing canola processing plant in Altona, Manitoba, supporting the company’s growing demand for canola oil products while maintaining uninterrupted operations. Awarded through a competitive bid, the two-year project, completed between late 2011 and early 2014, included the construction of 40,000-tonne slipform silos for seed receiving and meal storage, three new process buildings, and full mechanical installation of process equipment, along with integrated rail and truck shipping and receiving systems and a seed-cleaning system with bucket elevators and conveyors. Executed within an active facility, the project required precise scheduling and close collaboration with Bunge’s engineering and operations teams to manage traffic flow, safety, and constructability, resulting in minimal operational disruption and a successful expansion for this global agribusiness leader.
